Plastic injection molding is a fast manufacturing technique for making small parts by rapidly injecting molded material into a mold, or cavity. Injection molding can be done with a variety of materials most often including plastics, polyethylene, polypropylene, thermoplastics, and many more commonly thermoplastic and polyurethane polymers. In most cases plastic injection molding is used for the production of plastic parts, although it can also be used for the production of metal parts such as tubes, pipes, and connectors.

Plastic injection molding is most frequently used in the automotive industry to make precision plastic parts. These parts include bumpers, hoods, fenders, mirrors, seats, steering wheels, tires, and more. While many people mistakenly think that plastic injection molding is only used for automobile parts, this is not true. Many people use plastic injection molding to create props and clothing that may appear like an automobile part but are actually made from other materials.

The plastic injection molding process consists of three main steps. The first step is the cooling of the resin pellets. This cooling process is accomplished using a liquid cooling system. The second step of the process is the heating of the parts to their melting point. Finally, the plastic parts are cooled and trimmed before they are placed in the molds.
